BBC introduce The Reggaskas at Lemonfest

The Reggaskas, stalwarts of the South-West’s live music scene, have kicked off 2015’s festival marathon with an appearance at Lemonfest, the annual festival held at Newton Abbot Race Course at the end of May.

Bringing their unique vibe and party-style to the Locally Grown stage, the Reggaskas played an upbeat, up-tempo, top of the bill evening set to a slightly damp but enthusiastic sell-out crowd, at what has become a very popular festival. Proving that Devon’s music scene is very much alive and thriving, the Reggaskas were joined by several other local groups promoting the music of Devon and the South-West on the Locally Grown stage.

And promote they did! Actively endorsed by BBC Devon Introducing, who played the Reggaskas’ track, “A Good Day” as part of their festival coverage, the Reggaskas were later introduced live on stage by very excited BBC Introducing DJ James Santer, and jumped straight into their hit “Who’s the Daddy.” A Reggaskas original, Who’s the Daddy was written in 2014 for Mike, Steve and Rich father. Also this song was used to help promote the charity organisation Balls to Cancer for fathers day.

With an early evening downpour only increasing festival-goers’ determination to embrace the party spirit, the Reggaskas, played a full set with all eight band members to crowds from across Devon and the South-West. With headliners such as DJ Yoda, the Subways and Beans on Toast attracting record crowds, there were plenty of opportunities for revellers to immerse themselves in locally grown talent that Reggaska’s music brings to the fore.

So much so, in fact, that the Plymouth Herald’s Emily Smith, tweeted about the Reggaskas, saying they were her “new fav thing.” With Lizy’s vocal stylings leading the way, backed by Mike on sax and melodica, Fester, Rich and Chris making up the brass section and Simon, Dave and Harry completing the band, it’s no surprise that rave reviews bounced around Twitter and Facebook. Look out for the Reggaskas coming to a festival near you, or check out the tour dates to see when and where you can catch them next.
